LEARNING TO LEAD

Duration:  3 months | 3 workshops

Learning to Lead enables leaders to develop their skills and confidence for the future as they take on leadership and management responsibilities. 

 

The course provides an understanding of what good management is and why it is so important to continue to develop skills and behaviours. Delegates will learn how they impact others through their communication style and ability to have effective conversations.

Delegates of our ILM Recognised Learning to Lead programme will learn how to flex their leadership style and use different ways of communicating to influence others and get the best out of their teams. 

 

They will learn how to manage performance by developing key skills such as active listening, effective questioning, and assertiveness to give feedback, develop others, and enable problem-solving throughout their teams. 

 

Learning to Lead has no formal assessment. Certification is based on attending all modules, active participation in interactive exercises, and engagement with review sessions.

MODULE 1 - ROLE OF THE MANAGER

  • Understand what good management is and the responsibilities and skills of a good manager

 

  • Explore the impact of a manager on others and what it takes for managers to be at their best 

 

  •  Understand preferred communication style, how this impacts others and how to adapt it

 

  • Identify own strengths and development areas and actions to improve

MODULE 2 - MANAGING PERFORMANCE

  • Introducing ‘performance’ and the role of the manager

  • Understand the skills of listening, asking quality questions and giving clarity to manage performance

  • Explore two factors affecting performance – will and skill and how to flex management style

  • Understand how motivation affects performance and how to help others feel motivated through good conversations

  • Learn how to identify a gap in someone’s knowledge, skill or behaviour and what options there are to develop using blended learning principles

MODULE 3 - CRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS

  • Explore ‘assertiveness’ and why we find some conversations difficult

 

  • Understand best practice in having crucial conversations

 

  • Learn about engagement and resistance

 

  • Develop the knowledge and skill to have crucial conversations
